New Shop Owners

After more than 20 years Ian Henshall has stepped down as owner manager of Coffee Plant in London's Portobello Road.

The new owners have pledged to maintain the character of a shop which has become an icon and been praised by many celebrities, while Henshall develops the wholesale side of the business.

Coffee Plant is best known for its wide range of coffee beans delivered twice each week from the Coffee Plant roastery in nearby Wembley. Coffee Plant selects dual certified organic and Fairtrade beans when available. High turnover ensures freshly roasted coffee and competitive pricing.

Over the years the business has built up a substantial mail order following, often from one time customers who have moved away. Coffee Plant roastery now supplies retail and wholesale customers all across the UK.

Coffee plant owner Ian Henshall was invited onto the TV programme What's My Line. At that time it was compered by Rippon who, understandably tired of reporting the plentiful bad news of Thatcher's Britain, was starting to experiment with new career possibilities.
